The story unfolds
Meet Kat: The heart of the mission
The girls met Kat, who shared her dream of continuing her journey as a photographer despite her physical challenges after an accident that left her paralysed. With notebooks in hand, the girls asked questions, showcasing empathy and excitement to build a solution that truly makes a difference to Kat.
Building the robot
The girls took on the challenge and under the guidance of IBM experts they came up with an idea of attaching a robotic arm, with and integrated camera, to Spot, the cutting-edge robotic dog. This solution would enable Kat to control Spot and the camera with her functioning fingers to take photos.
From coding to assembling and integrating systems, each girl discovered her unique role in bringing their ambitious project to life.
The big hired moment
Greeted by IBM’s CEO Nicola Hodson, the girls presented their Robot idea and received an official “HIRED” stamp, marking the start of their tech adventure.
Why this campaign matters
This campaign isn’t just a feel-good story; it’s a movement to inspire the next generation of female tech leaders. By showcasing the curiosity, capability, and creativity of these young girls, IBM and Tech She Can highlight the importance of empowering more women to pursue careers in technology.
